Hi! Welcome to Model Railway Backshop! Whether you’re a seasoned brass railroader or just getting started, I’m here to help bring your miniature world to life.

A little Background

Model Railway Backshop comes from my love for railroad history and intricate craftsmanship. It all started when my dad introduced me to my first HO-scale steam locomotive when I was 3.

As I got older, I became more infatuated with painting and weathering my models. I’d watch videos from many people doing different styles of weathering. Eventually, I started doing my own weathering using my older brother’s artist oil paints.

I purchased my first 2 brass steam locomotives in 2019. One was a poorly custom-painted model with paint that chipped off every time I touched it. The other was a PSC Class A-2 4-8-4. The first model went through two different paint jobs as a practice model. As I got comfortable with painting and weathering brass, I started installing DCC and Sound.

What began as a hobby has become a full-fledged venture serving the needs of model railroaders around the US.

What I Offer

I provide several services to help you achieve the most realistic and functional brass models possible.

This includes:

  • Painting & Weathering: I’m here to help you achieve the perfect finish for your brass locomotives and cars. I’ll work with you to create realistic weathering effects and detailed paint jobs that bring your models to life and make your layout stand out.
  • DCC Installations: I only use ESU Loksound V5 Decoders combined with my custom sound files. You can trust that your steam locomotive will sound just like the prototype. I’ll handle everything, ensuring your locomotive is fully equipped for realistic sound.
  • Repairs: I’m committed to getting your models back into working order, no matter the issue. From small tweaks to major fixes, I’ll provide the attention to detail needed to ensure your trains run smoothly again.
  • Super Detailing: I can modify the details of your model to make it look like a completely different locomotive — provided the parts are available. In some instances, I can also create custom-designed parts.

How can I help you?

I get a lot of satisfaction from helping other model railroaders fix up an old model or add the perfect detail, I focus on getting the job done right. Seeing the results and knowing it’s exactly what someone wanted is what keeps me motivated with every project I work on.

Thank you for stopping by the Backshop. I look forward to helping you with your models!
